Concord v Chippenham

Another very long trip tomorrow to Canvey island, the Essex side are very much the draw specialists. They have drawn there last 6 games which is incredible. I am hoping we can break that run and take the 3 points.  There crowds are pretty small so they shouldn’t influence the ref to much unlike some of the sides we have visited this season.  The squad should be near full strength with Guthrie back from his ban, and it was good to see Matt Smith come on against Melksham.  We have missed Matts surging runs and shoot on site approach. Well looking forward to the game. Team selection will be interesting.   Good luck tomorrow to Mark, Tom, Horgs, Jas and the Lads. 😎

Re: Concord v Chippenham

Another excellent pre-match review as always Jono. This game is winnable if the Manager selects the right starting 11 to do the job. Having given the bulk of the squad a run out against Melksham in mid-week, he will have a number of options at his disposal, and it will be interesting to see who does start. Smithy looked very lively when he came on against Melksham, and I thought Darren Mullins looked stronger as the game progressed. I know my predictions are usually way off the mark, but I have a good feeling about this one, and I think we will just about sneak it. COYMB

Re: Concord v Chippenham

15mins Chip 1-0 James Morton, is he on loan?
25 mins 1-1
30 mins 2-1 Will Richards header COYB
60 MINS 2-2
Down  3-2  Dean Evans sent off 2nd yellow
FT Lost 4-2 appears indiscipline again cost us the game and Tindall off injured at half time, also another suspension coming up, they need to get a grip of the discipline.

Re: Concord v Chippenham

I've been a massive fan of the goal keeper, (especially after the Poole and Cheltenham games) but know he seems to show his inexperience.
I just think he needs a rest. Too much pressure for a young lad?
Better to get dumped out the FA Trophy, don't want to be sucked in to a relegation battle!

Re: Concord v Chippenham

Too much pressure on the young lad? He plays for Chelsea and has played in fa youth cup finals and UEFA champions league youth finals. I'm think he's fine. Hes done well I think and we certainly won't get better.
Not a good result today though. But if you offered me comfortable mid table at this point in the season I'd have taken it and I'm sure a lot of others would have.

Re: Concord v Chippenham

There does seem to be a bit of a problem with collection of reds and yellows. Need to get a grip on that

Re: Concord v Chippenham

I've got to agree with Stratford, Thompson is a class act. And as with all goalkeepers he relies on his defenders to help him out. And at times especially when we travel away long distances he has been let down.  How many bad games has he had.  Not many.  Also I for one  don't want to get dumped out of the FA Trophy, winning football matches brings confidence and forms good habits.  When your winning the next game can't come quick enough. Not to mention the £5000 pounds up for grabs to the winners of the next round. Maybe  the team needs Hypnosis to get rid of this barrier.??   But I have Immense confidence in Mark and Tom to sort out  the away day problems. And we quickly return to winning ways on the road.  Hopefully starting at Whitehawk in the FA Trophy next Saturday.   😎

Re: Concord v Chippenham

Think anyone debating whether the Trophy this weekend is expendable is completely insane! At this level how much difference does a £5000 win make? After already being dumped out of the FA Cup rather unceremoniously this game is just as important as a League Game! We have the Wilts Cup to rest players and to my knowledge Thompson has started those games as well? I don't think the kid looks under pressure at all, I personally think he looks brilliant, shot stopping is up there, great distribution and proper modern goalkeeper but needs to be protected by the back four. Corners and set pieces need to be set up effectively in order to stop cheap efforts like Concords first two goals at the weekend. Mark Collier would not insist on having this man for a season if he wasn't National League ready and I believe our current position is a fair reflection of our performances so far and truthfully start of the season I would have taken it at this point. Relegation battle? We are closer to the playoffs than being relegated!! HEAD UP

Re: Concord v Chippenham

What you say makes very good sense, you echo my thoughts The Voice.  Two league wins on the spin, some people would be talking about the play offs. But as you’ve said Mate a win in the Trophy on Saturday is very important to the club, And  I’m 100% sure Mark & Tom will have the lads going all out to get it.  It’s a funny old game.  😎

Re: Concord v Chippenham

Totally agree with what the Voice and Jono said. One mistake doesn't  suddenly make Thompson a bad goalie, you need the defence doing their job in front of you. So far this season he's been great and as good as anyone we're likely to get at this level. A win on Saturday will make all the difference to both budget and confidence and as was said we are not in too bad a position in the league ( look at Hungerford and Poole who were pushing for playoff places last season.) Our next home game is against the team with the worse away record in the league so if we don't anything from that then I will start to worry.
